At Atlas Air Worldwide, we believe that our greatest asset is our people. Our success is built on the foundation of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual support. Today, we’re excited to share a story that spotlights these values, featuring two of our dedicated team members: Sam Hentz and Joe Fox.

A Tale of Two Aviators
Sam Hentz, a valued member of our System Operations team in the Global Control Center (GCC), has been tirelessly working towards her dream of becoming a pilot for Atlas Air. Her determination to earn flight ratings and build hours is truly admirable.
Joe Fox, one of our experienced Duty Pilots, brings an impressive background to the table. With years of flying experience for Atlas Air, the military, and in his personal life, Joe set himself an ambitious goal: to have flown 100 different aircraft models in his career.
When Aspirations Align
As Joe was nearing his target, just 3-4 aircraft shy of his 100 mark, he learned something interesting about his fellow team member, Sam. She was qualified to give check rides in a Cessna 206 – an aircraft Joe had never flown before.
Recognizing an opportunity for mutual benefit, Joe approached Sam with a proposal. He asked if she would fly with him in her flight club’s Cessna 206, allowing him to get “checked out” on this new aircraft model.
Teamwork in Action
Sam was more than happy to oblige. A few weeks ago, these two teammates took to the skies together, each helping the other progress towards their personal and professional goals.
For Sam, it was an opportunity to share her expertise and gain more experience in a training capacity. For Joe, it meant adding another aircraft to his impressive roster, bringing him one step closer to his goal of 100 different models flown.
“That flight was special to me,” said Sam. “I had the opportunity to fly with a very successful and passionate career and general aviation pilot, who I admire. It was an honor to help Joe toward his goal of 100 different aircraft. The encouragement and support I have received from Joe and others at Atlas has been a huge part of my aviation journey.”
“Sam has impressed all of us with her enthusiasm for flying,” said Joe. “She is an excellent pilot who is always trying to improve her skills. All the Duty Pilots have been acting as mentors for her as she progresses through her experience. We all want to see her succeed and eventually become a pilot here at Atlas Air.”
At Atlas, we’re a community of aviation enthusiasts who understand the power of lifting each other up. Stories like Sam and Joe’s remind us of the incredible things we can achieve when we work together. Their adventure in the Cessna 206 was more than a flight – it was a testament to the spirit of collaboration that drives us forward.
